Rooted Routes: Juneteenth Self-Guided Reflection Hikes

Welcome Traveler!

You are about to embark on a journey that is more than a hike. Rooted Routes is an invitation—a quiet call to walk with purpose, to listen deeply, and to honor the stories held by the land beneath your feet.

Created in recognition of Juneteenth, this self-guided experience is a space for reflection, connection, and remembrance. It is designed to deepen your understanding of freedom—not only as a historical milestone but as an ongoing, lived experience that echoes through generations.

As you explore the four trails—Lost Beach, Dogwood, Redwing, and Pine—you’ll be guided by prompts centered on themes of passage, freedom, ancestral appreciation, the unknown, and nature as liberation. These themes ask not only for your thoughts, but for your presence. This is a space to reflect, to breathe, to feel, and to remember.

We invite you to:

  • Walk slowly.

  • Listen to the wind, birdsong, and silence.

  • Let your senses engage fully.

  • Let memory, imagination, and emotion rise with each step.

This land, once part of a larger story of migration, survival, and resistance, holds wisdom. You are now part of its unfolding.

Take your time.
Honor what arises.
And know that every step forward is a continuation of a freedom journey that began long before you—but also lives within you.
